spookat is live

The Spookat cat in sunglasses and a chain with a 4 kb pendant, standing on a podium inside dashed frames on a lime background, with v1 written in the corner.

Boo. Spookat is live. We launched today: a chat for your site that you answer from Slack, Discord or our inbox and its phone app, priced per site instead of per seat. Here’s what you get, what it costs, and where to start.

what it is

A chat widget for your website. Visitors write in the widget, and your team answers in a Slack or Discord thread, or in our inbox and its phone app. On Slack or Discord you never open another app to reply, and nobody on your team needs a seat.

That’s the product. Everything else is there to make that loop faster, lighter or more private.

what makes it different

We didn’t build another chat widget to make the same trade-offs as the others. These are the numbers we measured and published, with every raw run, over the last month:

  • 2 kb before the click. One request, one script, from our CDN. The other six widgets we tested transferred between 121 kb and just over 1 mb once they were running (the weigh-in).
  • 0 requests to our API before a click. The chat panel and the connection to our server load when someone actually wants to talk.
  • No cookies. Not before the click, not after. Before a visitor writes, nothing at all is stored in their browser (the cookie test).
  • Lighthouse doesn’t notice it. On our test page the launcher added nothing outside the run-to-run noise (the Lighthouse test).
  • The server is fast and boring. One process on one core took 1000 visitor messages a second in our load test (1000 messages a second).
  • It opens in one round trip. On a throttled phone the chat is ready to type 0.80 seconds after the first click, without loading it on every page view. The numbers are in click to open.

what you can do from today

  • Install it with one script tag, on anything that serves HTML. Guides so far: a plain HTML site, a site built with Lovable, Bolt or v0, and letting Claude Code do it.
  • Answer from Slack or Discord. Each chat is a thread. Reply in the thread, and the visitor sees it in the widget right away.
  • Or answer from the inbox in the dashboard and its phone app, when you don’t want to open Slack or use neither.
  • Pick a look. 8 styles and 17 self-hosted fonts, your colour, your greeting, your side of the screen (8 styles).
  • Let your agent in. An API and a remote MCP server let your own AI agent read chats and help answer them, and an agent can even set Spookat up on a site for you. A human always pays (our site is readable by agents).
  • Speak your visitors’ language. The widget talks in 12 languages and picks the visitor’s by itself.

what it costs

Per site, per month. Unlimited teammates on every plan.

plan a site chat history
starter $4.99 30 days
pro $14.99 90 days
agency $49.99 365 days

Every extra site you pay for through Spookat is 30% off, once one of your sites pays full price. Start with a 14-day trial, no card. Early-access prices are still on until November 30, and whoever subscribes before then keeps them.

why we built it

We ran the big chat widgets on our own product and each one annoyed us in its own way: the weight, the seat bills, one more inbox to babysit. The long version is in why we built another chat widget. The short version is the list above.

If something breaks, or you want something that isn’t there, write to us. A human answers. That’s the one promise the whole product is built around.

Start your 14-day trial. Your site stays as fast as it was.
